St. Charles County, Missouri - Time is running out to dispose of those leftover hazardous chemicals now lurking in your garage, under your sink, and in the shed. St. Charles County Recycle Works accepts many of these dangerous substances for proper disposal. The final collection event for 2009 takes place this Saturday, September 26 at Recycle Works Central, 60 Triad South Dr. in St. Charles. The facility will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to accept hazardous wastes.
How can you tell what's hazardous? Look for the words "CAUTION," "WARNING," or "DANGER" on the label. Items accepted at Recycle Works Central include antifreeze and other automotive fluids, herbicides, fertilizers, pool chemicals, and pesticides. Latex-based paints and stains are not accepted. Before visiting Recycle Works Central, please make sure your waste is properly packed.
- Do not mix wastes
- Leave material in its original container, with the label intact
- Items not in original packaging should be clearly labeled with contents. Mixed waste in plastic bags will NOT be accepted
- Be sure the lid is secure
- Place the product inside a box lined with newspaper (fill gaps with crumpled newspaper to prevent spills during transport)
- Place filled box in the trunk of your vehicle
While you are at the collection site, please remain in your vehicle at all times for your safety.
