St. Louis Mental Health Board Awards Family Resource Center $243,000 to Fund Two Programs

St. Louis, MO -  In June, area non-profit agency Family Resource Center (FRC) was awarded $243,000 by the St. Louis Mental Health Board to provide funding for the two of the organization's core programs that address the mental health of children and families.

The first grant of $48,165 will be used to fund FRC's Missouri Mentoring Partner/St. Louis Volunteer Resource Parents (SLVRP) program. The SLVRP program matches pregnant/parenting young women and fathers with trained volunteer mentors to offer emotional support and parenting techniques during and after pregnancy. This funding will allow continued recruitment of mentors and parents to serve in the program.

The second grant of $194,960 will fund the Therapeutic Preschool/Day Treatment program. The preschool treats children three to six years of age who have experienced abuse or neglect, witnessed domestic violence, or may be at risk for abuse or neglect. This program provides structure, stability, nurturance and behavior management in a therapeutic environment for children experiencing emotional and/or behavioral problems.

According to Greg Echele, FRC Chief Executive Officer, "Receiving this funding from the St. Louis Mental Health Board will enable us to assist and treat more parents and children, moving them out of crisis to stability to the ultimate goal of self-sustainability. We are honored to be a recipient of these grants."
