GUY PHILLIPS AND KIM TUCCI HELP RAISE $60,000 FOR SHALOM HOUSE

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (October 15, 2009) - On the evening of Thursday, October 8, Shalom House, a residential program for homeless women with mental illness and chemical dependency, raised approximately $60,000 at its annual signature event "There’s No Place Like Home." The event was emceed by Y-98’s Guy Phillips, with auctioneering duties handled by Pasta House Co. co-founder Kim Tucci. Jazz entertainment was provided by band leader Dr. Thomas George, Chancellor of University of Missouri - St. Louis.

This elegant and mission-driven evening was completely client-centered with residents serving as greeters and silent auction volunteers and personal testimonies and anecdotes from all Transitional Housing Program residents. Greg Kiger of Video St. Louis created breath-taking photos and a documentary of one woman’s story, which touched the hearts of all.

The event consisted of a live, silent, and fund-a-home auction at Meadowbrook Country Club in Ballwin. Additionally, Shalom House presented two awards, honoring the people who assist them every day with giving hope to homeless women through innovative programs and supportive services designed to stabilize and rebuild lives.

Kirkwood United Methodist Church received the "2009 Shalom House Community Impact Award" for its tremendous support during 2009 - including organizing the organization’s Emergency Shelter pantry, landscaping, remodeling an old closet into a useable office space.

Brian Hill of Manchester, MO was awarded the "2009 Earline Falker Volunteer of the Year Award" (named after long-time Shalom House volunteer Earline Falker) in recognition of his years of dedicated service to the organization, which has positively transformed Shalom House into what it is today.

"Every year our signature event provides us with a special opportunity to highlight our organization and showcase the tremendous efforts we go to in order to bring stability and hope to the women we support," said Tammy Laws, Executive Director at Shalom House. "Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our volunteers, we are able to help these women get back on their feet and live healthy, independent lives in our community."

Special thanks to event sponsors: Ameristar Casino, Inc., Bernadette Printing Company, and International Placement Services.
