Lydia’s House Selected as Liberty Bell Award Honoree by Young Lawyers Council of the Missouri Bar

St. Louis, Mo., October 28, 2009 — Lydia’s House was recently selected as a Liberty Bell Award recipient by the Young Lawyers Council of the Missouri Bar. The local non-profit organization has been honored for exceptional efforts within the St. Louis community to end domestic violence.  

Lydia’s House, which is the largest organization of its kind in Missouri, is dedicated to the promotion of domestic violence awareness and works in faith to provide transitional housing, education, and assistance for victimized women and their children. 

“We are pleased to have our work in the St. Louis area honored with such a prestigious award by the Missouri Bar. The overall depth and passion of our outreach and education efforts showcase the accomplishment of Lydia’s House. Our continued success can be attributed to the many efforts of our staff, volunteers, and donors in the support of this ending domestic violence,” said Ellen Reed, executive director of Lydia's House. 

The Liberty Bell Award is presented annually by the Missouri Bar to a non-lawyer or non-legal organization engaged in public service and enhancing the local community. The Missouri Bar currently includes about 28,000 lawyers and seeks to improve the legal profession, the administration of justice and the law on behalf of the public.

In partnership with its donors and volunteers, Lydia's House works in faith to end domestic violence by continuing to provide a place of healing and a voice of hope for abused women and their children. Since its incorporation in 1995, Lydia's House has provided transitional housing, access to community resources and comprehensive, goal-oriented support services for more than 300 abused women and their children. Lydia's House currently serves 35 women and up to 70 children. It is Missouri’s largest provider of confidentially located, furnished apartments for abused women and their children and is one of the largest programs of its type in the United States.
