St. Louis, Mo. - National Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 16. Bike commuters are invited to join The Great Rivers Greenway District, the YMCA of Greater St. Louis and Trailnet for breakfast at 20 Refueling Stations. Stop by on your bike commute to work, have some goodies (provided by Companion Baking at the Clayton and Missouri History Museum) and meet fellow bike commuters. Breakfast for bike commuters will be served 6:30 - 9:00 a.m. at the following locations:

Memorial Park in Clayton at South Meramec Avenue and Carondelet Avenue, Clayton
Missouri History Museum at Lindell Bouelvard and DeBaliviere Avenue on the north edge of Forest Park. Look for the tent and tables at the north entrance to the museum.
American Institute of Architects-St. Louis Chapter is offering free secure bike and gear storage. Storage will be at 305 North Broadway across the street from the Marquette YMCA Refueling Station. Bikes can be dropped off 6:30 to 9 a.m. with pickup 4 to 6 p.m.
The Missouri History Museum and Clayton Refueling Stations are on the Bike St. Louis route. The route now includes seventy-seven miles of dedicated bike lanes and shared traffic lanes and features highly visible, standard bike route signage, eye-catching Bike St. Louis logo signage and special pavement markings. Check it out when planning your Bike to Work Day route. Maps are available on line at http://www.bikestlouis.org/ and will be distributed at the Refueling Stations.
In Clayton, The Great Rivers Greenway District launched an on-street banner program. The banners feature large graphic silhouettes of bicyclists, and each banner promotes one of 12 different messages focused on the health and environmental benefits of bicycling. Messages include "Burn calories, not gas," "Bicycles run on renewable energy," Bike commuters don't pollute" and "Calories burned per mile bicycling - 25," as well as others. The banners are displayed on light standards throughout Clayton's central business district and along Wydown Boulevard.
Since 1956, the national non-profit Bicycling Safety and Education Association and the League of American Bicyclists, has declared the month of May to be National Bike Month and the third Friday in May as Bike to Work Day.
During May Trailnet is offering several activities to encourage you to ride your bike for transportation during National Bike Month. Pedal past the pumps in May and enter the Drive Your Bike Challenge.
