St. Louis, Mo. - Music! Words! Opera! 2008 Teacher's Workshop offers area third- through eighth-grade teachers the opportunity to learn how opera can be used to combine music with various content areas, such as science, math, and social studies. The workshop will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16-20, in the University of Missouri-St. Louis Music Building, One University Boulevard.
Participants will explore Puccini's classic tragedy Madame Butterfly. The workshop provides participants with teaching tools and strategies for helping students discover how opera relates to them and for guiding students in creating and producing their own opera. The curriculum was developed by OPERA America, the not-for-profit service organization for professional opera companies, and is aligned with Missouri content and performance standards.
Teachers in the Greater St. Louis area can attend this workshop for $25. The cost for other teachers is $125. For more information or to register, visit umsl.edu/~conted/finearts or call 314-516-5974.
