Salazar, Padres defeat Dodgers

Oscar Salazar's pinch-hit single with 1 out in the 9th inning gave the San Diego Padres a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday.

Scott Hairston started the winning rally with a single down the left-field line off George Sherrill. He was sacrificed to second by Tony Gwynn Jr. Salazar then hit a full-count pitch up the middle and into center field.

Marlins 5, Giants 0 • Anibal Sanchez pitched a 1-hitter for his 1st shutout since a no-hitter in September 2006 and Mike Stanton hit a pair of RBI doubles in Florida's victory.

Giants rookie Buster Posey had his hitting streak snapped at 21 games, 1 shy of tying Hall of Famer Willie McCovey's San Francisco rookie record set in 1959.

Nationals 5, Braves 3 • Scott Olsen returned from the disabled list to win his 1st appearance in more than 2 months, Adam Dunn and Ian Desmond each homered and doubled, and Washington defeated Atlanta in a game interrupted 1 1/2 hours by rain.

Phillies 3, D'backs 2 • Wilson Valdez's RBI single with 1 out in the 11th inning lifted Philadelphia to its 8th win in a row.

Rockies 9, Pirates 3 • Ubaldo Jimenez rebounded from 2 rough starts to pitch 7 effective innings as Colorado snapped an 8-game skid.

White Sox 9, Mariners 5 • Ramon Castro homered twice and Paul Konerko went deep for the 4th game in a row, leading Chicago to its 11th consecutive home victory.

Carlos Quentin also homered for the White Sox.

Yankees 11, Indians 4 • Alex Rodriguez drove in 3 runs without hitting his 600th homer and New York used a 7-run seventh inning to defeat Cleveland.

Dustin Moseley won his first start, allowing a run over 6 innings as New York took 3 of 4 in a series that saw A-Rod extend his homerless streak to 7 games.

Rangers 7, Athletics 4 • Michael Young scored his first 3 times up and Taylor Teagarden hit a 2-run home run, sending Texas to a victory over Oakland.

Rays 4, Tigers 2 • David Price became the AL's first 14-game winner, Carlos Peña had 4 RBIs and Tampa Bay completed a 4-game sweep.
