MLB NOTEBOOK

Reds get Isringhausen • Cincinnati signed former Cardinals reliever Jason Isringhausen to a deal with Class AAA Louisville as he continues his comeback from elbow surgery.

He threw in the bullpen Tuesday and manager Dusty Baker was impressed. "I was very pleasantly surprised," Baker said.

Ankiel returns • The Royals activated outfielder Rick Ankiel from the disabled list and he went into Thursday's game in the 3rd inning after center fielder David DeJesus suffered a sprained thumb. Ankiel, who was on DL because of a thigh injury, went 0 for 3 and is hitting .200.

DeJesus was hurt when he ran into the wall while trying to catch a ball hit by the Yankees' Derek Jeter, which went for an inside-the-park homer. DeJesus is expected to miss the rest of the 4-game series.

Angels-Royals trade • The Angels acquired infielder Alberto Callaspo from the Royals for pitchers Sean O'Sullivan and Will Smith. Callaspo is batting .275 and will become the Angels' starting third baseman, with Maicer Izturis going to a utility role. O'Sullivan is expected to move into the Royals rotation after posting a 2.08 ERA in 13 innings for the Angels. Smith is headed to Class A.

Doumit is out • The Pirates put catcher Ryan Doumit, who has a concussion, on the 15-day disabled list.

Marlins 3, Rockies 2 • Ronny Paulino hit the winning single with the bases loaded and no outs in the 9th.
