Ludwick goes to Reds
Cincinnati agreed to a $2.5 million, one-year contract with free agent Ryan Ludwick on a busy day in baseball.
The Reds also avoided arbitration by signing the following players to one-year deals: righthander Homer Bailey ($2,425,000), reliever Bill Bray ($1,417,500) and shortstop Paul Janish ($850,000).
Tigers • Detroit's Victor Martinez might miss the entire season after injuring his left knee in offseason conditioning.
Brewers • Milwaukee signed Japanese outfielder Norichika Aoki, 30, to a two-year deal with a club option for 2014. Milwaukee also signed reliever Francisco Rodriguez ($8 million) to a one-year deal. And Craig Counsell retired as a player and is taking a front office job.
Red Sox •. Boston outfielder Carl Crawford (left wrist) had surgery and might miss opening day. The Red Sox also signed outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury ($8.05 million).
Orioles • Baltimore hired former major league pitching coach Rick Peterson as director of pitching development.
