ST. LOUIS -- Cincinnati starter Travis Wood has held the Cardinals to one unearned run through three innings at Busch Stadium. The lefty has held the Cardinals to two hits and one walk through his first three innings Saturday.

He also allowed only one run in that stretch.

A run he just answered on his own.

Wood hit the first homer of his major-league career in the top of the fourth inning. The lefty, who bats righthanded, ripped the first pitch from Adam Wainwright he saw just over the left-field fence. The ball ricocheted of one of the billboards that makes up the false wall in front of the left-field seats. The ball bounced back into the field of play -- conveniently so it could be returned to Wood for his career milestone.

The homer put the Reds up, 5-1, as the bottom of the fourth starts.
