JUPITER, Fla. -- Florida Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco proved to be regular-season ready with six shutout innings against the Cardinals on Monday at Roger Dean Stadium.
Nolasco helped make one big inning by the Marlins against Cardinals starter Jake Westbrook stand in a 4-1 victory.
Florida is 6-1 against the Cardinals this spring.
The Marlins are 8-13-1 against the rest of the Grapefruit League.
The two teams, who share the RDS complex each spring, will conclude the Fins and Feathers Series on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals originally were going to field a Triple-A heavy roster for that game. But with the cancellation of the exhibition in Springfield, the Cardinals will run out major leaguers, including starter Jaime Garcia, for the spring finale at RDS.
Westbrook allowed 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. Five of those hits came in the Marlins' four-run third inning and all of the hits and runs in that inning came with two outs.
Allen Craig, who started at first base Monday, had two hits.
Minor-league outfielder Tyler Henley, called over from the back fields to appear late in Monday's game, stroked a pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth inning for the Cardinals only run. Nick Stavinoha scored after singling off Marlins' closer Leo Nunez.
Ryan Theriot's single in the sixth inning ended Nolasco's run of retiring 15 consecutive batters. Theriot was stranded at second after stealing his first base of the season.
Nolasco, the Marlins' No. 2 starter, threw six shutout innings. He did not walk a Cardinal, allowed two hits, and struck out three.
The Cardinals drew a total of 92,652 to their home spring training games this month at Roger Dean Stadium. That is an average of 6,177 per exhibition game.
