ATLANTA -- The Cardinals took out some offensive frustrations early Thursday night by ripping into Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens for seven runs in 3 1/3 innings as they grabbed a 7-3 lead in the opener of a four-game series at Turner Field.

Second baseman Skip Schumaker capped a five-run second inning with a two-out, two-run homer to break a 3-3 tie.

The Cardinals evicted Jurrjens with two runs in the fourth inning. First baseman Albert Pujols completed the attack on Jurrjens with his 37th home run and second in two nights.

The uprising overcame a 3-0 deficit built on five first-inning hits against Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright, who is attempting to run his career record to 6-0 in as many starts against his former team. Wainwright is 16-0 when receiving at least four runs of support this season.
