Cardinals infielder Felipe Lopez has more hits against Cincinnati starter Bronson Arroyo than any other pitcher he's faced in the majors. But Lopez will not be in tonight's lineup here against Arroyo and the Reds.
Lopez is 15 for 39 (.385) against Arroyo for his career. But manager Tony La Russa said, "Felipe hasn't done really well against this club this season (five for 25, .200) and he's really been fighting it lately.
"He's been struggling and the call went against him."
Lopez entered tonight's game two for his last 21 and had dropped to .238, his lowest average since April 18
Colby Rasmus is back hitting fifth tonight and Skip Schumaker, one of the few Cardinals who has been hot lately, is leading off.
Brandon Phillips, who stirred the pot last month with his derogatory comments about the Cardinals and then was involved with Cardinals' catcher Yadier Molina in a home-plate dispute the next night, is back in the Cincinnati lineup after missing a week's worth of starts when he was hit in the right hand by a pitch.
