ATLANTA - Left fielder Matt Holliday won't experience the end of tonight's game against the Atlanta Braves after being ejected for protesting a called third strike in the fourth inning.
Better news for the Cardinals is that the real Adam Wainwright has arrived after a troubled three-run, five-hit first inning.
Wainwright has retired 12 of 13 since the Braves attacked him for three early runs, including a two-run shot by first baseman Derrek Lee. Wainwright, who vowed he would not lose again after being beaten by the Cincinnati Reds last Saturday, appears on track for his 18th win after losing four consecutive starts for the first time in his career.
The Cardinals broke a 12-game drought in which they failed achieve double-digit hits by ripping Braves starter Jair Jurrjens for 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings. The Cardinals batted .197 (74-for-376) during the 12-game brownout.
