MILWAUKEE _ Not only was Cardinals lefthanded reliever Trever Miller unavailable for Wednesday night’s series finale with the Milwaukee Brewers, he wasn’t even here.
Miller went back to St. Louis Wednesday to be examined by Dr. George Paletta, the Cardinals' medical director, because of soreness and stiffness Miller was experiencing near his left elbow. An MRI revealed a forearm strain, which likely will sideline the 36-year-old Miller for at least several more days.
In other medical news, the club announced that third baseman David Freese, already out for the season after surgery to repair ligament damage in his right ankle, had cleanup surgery on his left ankle in Vail, Colo, where he had had the right ankle surgery in early August.
The left ankle surgery stems from an auto accident Freese suffered in the winter of 2009 and which resulted in surgery during last season. No timetable was offered for his potential recovery.
