ST. LOUIS • A record the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals set as the World Series champions and held through five Octobers was finally broken this fall.

The San Francisco Giants, who swept Detroit for their second World Series title in three seasons, will receive a players' pool payout of $23.5 million from postseason revenues, and the Giants have elected to carve that up into 50 full shares. Each share is worth $377,002.64, according to Major League Baseball, and that eclipses the previous high for an individual share of $362,173.07, one set by the '06 Cardinals.

The Cardinals, who lost to the Giants in the National League championship series, received a players' pool of $7.8 million. The Cardinals voted to award 56 full shares, each of which is worth $122,558.29.

A total of purse of about $65 million was split between the 10 playoff teams.

Here is the breakdown of purses and shares awarded from the 2012 season, from MLB's official release:

World Series champ Giants ... Players’ Pool: $23,530,848.92; value of each full share: $377,002.64. The Giants awarded 50 full shares, a total of 11.10 partial shares and 12 cash awards.

AL Champion Detroit Tigers ... Players’ Pool: $15,687,232.61; value of each full share: $284,274.50. The Tigers awarded 48 full shares, 7.06 partial shares and seven cash awards.

ALCS Runner-Up New York Yankees ... Players’ Pool: $7,843,616.31; value of each full share: $115,065.28. The Yankees awarded 58 full shares and 10.17 partial shares.

NLCS Runner-Up Cardinals ... Players’ Pool: $7,843,616.31; value of each full share: $122,558.29. The Cardinals awarded 56 full shares, 7.795 partial shares and four cash awards.

ALDS Runner-Up Baltimore Orioles ... Players’ Pool: $2,124,312.75; value of each full share: $34,825.61. The Orioles awarded 54 full shares, 5.85 partial shares and 25 cash awards.

NLDS Runner-up Cincinnati Reds ... Players’ Pool: $2,124,312.75; value of each full share: $37,865.12. The Reds awarded 45 full shares, 7.46 partial shares and 20 cash awards.

ALDS Runner-Up Oakland Athletics ... Players’ Pool: $2,124,312.75; value of each full share: $34,325.16. A’s awarded 51 full shares, 9.786 partial shares and 19 cash awards.

NLDS Runner-Up Washington Nationals ... Players’ Pool: $2,124,312.75; value of each full share: $37,045.32. The Nats awarded 49 full shares, 6.65 partial shares and three cash awards.

Wild Card Game losers Atlanta Braves ... Players’ Pool: $980,452.04; value of each full share: $19,609.04. The Braves awarded 46 full shares and four partial shares. And Texas Rangers ... Players’ Pool: $980,452.04; value of each of full share: $16,999.09. The Rangers awarded 44 full shares, 8.5 partial shares and 12 cash awards.

Last year's share value for the Cardinals after their World Series victory was $323,169.98.
