ST. LOUIS • World Series MVP and Cardinals third baseman David Freese bolted for the West Coast immediately after Sunday's parade to make what could become a series of media appearances this week.
Freese is booked to appear on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno on this evening. The World Series MVP and St. Louis native could also appear on other shows in addition to a get-together being held in his honor at his agent's offices.
While Freese is on Leno's show, his manager, Tony La Russa is scheduled to appear on the "Late Show With David Letterman." That show tapes this afternoon in New York.
The Cardinals third baseman is the sixth player in MLB history to win both a league championship MVP and the World Series MVP in the same postseason.
He is the first position player since 1982 to double up.
Freese set the postseason record for RBIs with 21, and he established a new mark for total bases in October with 50. During the World Series, Freese hit .348 with three doubles, a triple, a home run and seven RBIs. His triple in the ninth inning of Game 6 tied that game, and his home run in the 11th inning won the game to force Game 7.
He had a two-run double in the first inning Friday that tied the Texas Rangers, 2-2, and the Cardinals did not trail again on their way to winning Game 7, 6-2, and the 11th title in franchise history.
Freese is a graduate of Lafayette High. He was acquired by the Cardinals after the 2007 season from San Diego in exchange for Jim Edmonds, the last Cardinal to hit a walk-off homer to win a postseason game.
