Game 3 of the National League Division Series between the Cardinals and Washington Nationals on Wednesday will be televised only on MLB Network, a cable and satellite channel that is purchased in about 30 percent fewer homes that TBS — which is carrying all other contests in the series. In some cases, a subscription to a higher-priced level of service is required to receive MLB Network than is needed to get TBS.
There is no provision for a local station to simulcast the MLB Network feed in a manner akin to what KPLR (Channel 11) did last Thursday night when the NFL allowed it to also carry the NFL Network telecast of the Rams-Arizona contest.
Bob Costas will do play-by-play of Wednesday’s game, which starts at 12:07 p.m. (St. Louis time), as he calls his first postseason game in 12 years. He’ll be accompanied by analyst Jim Kaat and reporter Sam Ryan.
