Illinois will cap its football season by playing UCLA in the Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco on Saturday, Dec. 31, in a matchup of teams with interim coaches.
Defensive coordinator Vic Koenning will lead the Illini in place of Ron Zook, who was fired last week. UCLA, which needed an NCAA waiver to play in a bowl with a 6-7 record, fired Rick Neuheisel and will be coached by offensive coordinator Mike Johnson.
Illinois is 6-6 and will play in consecutive bowls for the first time since 1991 and '92. The Illini will have a chance to win bowls in consecutive years for the first time in school history.
The game will be played at AT&T Park. The payout for Illinois is $750,000.
