• Augusta and Penton (CBC) are the only true freshmen on the depth chart, and they’re the only freshmen Missouri expects to play this year, Tigers coach Gary Pinkel said at today’s Tiger Quarterback Club luncheon. Augusta reported to preseason camp at 332 pounds, Pinkel said, and the staff wants him at 315 for the season. (Which means his listed weight of 300 above is probably not all that accurate.)

• There’s an OR between Sam and Ray at defensive end, but the staff has considered Ray a starter since the start of camp. He’s rotated evenly with Sam and fellow starter Ealy. I’d expect that to continue for the time being — much like last year when Ealy, Sam and Brad Madison split snaps fairly evenly.

• Missouri does not have a single player listed as injured for Saturday’s opener. Gaines (strained patellar tendon), Hoch (strained triceps) and Boehm (sore foot) had been limited to some degree at the end of preseason camp.

• Missouri is nothing if not more experienced than a year ago. Missouri’s listed offensive starters have started a collective 114 games. The starting lineup in last year’s season opener against Southeastern Louisiana had started a collective 100 games. But 56 of those career starters were by left tackle Elvis Fisher and T.J. Moe. The Tigers were otherwise fairly inexperienced with only Britt (13) and Franklin (13) with more than five career starts.

Missouri’s 2013 starting defense has started 111 games collectively, led by Gaines (25) and Wilson (23). Missouri’s 2012 starting defense had started 91 games collectively, led by Zaviar Gooden (26) and Will Ebner (16).

I’ll have more on the blog this evening after Pinkel’s first weekly press conference of the regular season.
