COLUMBIA, Mo. • Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk was named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team , as announced by the league office today.
The SEC’s 14 coaches voted for the team and were not allowed to vote for their own players. Arkansas, Ole Miss and South Carolina each placed a league-leading four freshmen on the team.
Mauk, 3-1 as a starter in place of injured senior James Franklin this season, completed 66 of 129 passes (51.2) percent for 1,039 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions in 12 appearances this season. The redshirt freshman only attempted passes in eight of those games. He also ran for 156 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries.
He was by far the league’s most productive freshman quarterbacks who saw extensive playing time this year. Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs became a starter late in the season and threw for 695 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions with 189 rushing yards. Florida’s Skyler Mornhinweg (344 yards, three touchdowns) and Vanderbilt’s Patton Robinette (488 yards, two touchdowns) also played some this season.
