SLU coach Rick Majerus said this morning that forward Cody Ellis will have surgery on his dislocated right shoulder and will miss the remainder of the season.

That's a tough break for SLU in a tough season. SLU is now missing its three leading scorers from last season following the suspensions of Kwamain Mitchell and Willie Reed. SLU is down to eight scholarship players, plus one-time scholarship player Paul Eckerle, whose time has dwindled over the course of the season.

SLU is 8-16, 3-8 in league play and now may have to fight off a challenge at the bottom of the league standings to get into the conference tournament. SLU has lost five of its past six games, and has gone 0-2 in the two games without Ellis.

SLU plays at St. Bonaventure on Wednesday and then has four of its final five games at home.

Ellis injured his shoulder in the final minute against Xavier on Feb. 5 when a player landed on his extended arm during a scramble for a loose ball.
