Post Practice 1 — Rams CB Jerome Murphy – July 29, 2010
(On the circumstances of his recent arrest)
“The circumstances was I was at a seven-on-seven-like tournament at my school. And as soon as I pulled out of the seven-on-seven, I was going to Publix to get some meat because I was having a barbecue because I was supposed to leave Wednesday to come back here. Then I got pulled over. I was with another driver, but they said I didn’t have my license on me because I was waiting for my social security card to come back, which I got. I’ve taken care of everything now. I’ve got the license, so everything is good now.”
(On if his situation is resolved)
“Yeah, it’s all resolved now. Everything is cool. I’m taking care of everything, because I’ve got a lawyer to take care of it for me, so it shouldn’t be a problem. The main thing is to take it off my record.”
(On if he had to pay a fine)
“No, no fine or nothing.”
(On the original reason he was pulled over)
“They said loud music, but my music wasn’t even loud. It was a nice car, so that’s what I figured.”
(On if he purchased the car after signing his rookie contract)
“I had the car already, but I just had put it in the shop. I got it all painted up with some rims on it. It’s a ’96 Impala.”
(On how long his license was expired)
“I am not sure. I’m from New Jersey so I haven’t been back to New Jersey in so long. I was in the process of getting it done before I came back here because I know I had to have it. That’s what they stressed in our rookie symposium and spring symposium in California and stuff like that. So I should have it taken care of.”
(On if this is something you want to avoid right before camp)
“Definitely. I was mad about it or whatever, but there’s nothing you can do about it. The law’s the law.”
(On how much he’s looking forward to competing for a spot at cornerback)
“Oh, I’m ready. I’m ready to put some pads on and ready to play. My game elevates with the pads.”
(On how ready he feels to compete when the veterans arrive)
“I feel real ready. I’m just ready to play, to put everything that happened behind me and just play football.”
(On dealing with the St. Louis heat)
“The heat is nothing. Florida is about the same thing. The only thing about it is that in Florida you get a little bit more breeze because you’re right on Tampa Bay. So you get a little breeze come through.”
(On competing with other young players in the secondary)
“Yeah, definitely. Every time we line up against each other we talk across the line. It’s just a game with us. We’re going to make each other work every time. It’s never going to be any plays off. We’re always trying to get the best of each other.”
(On the adjustments he’ll have to make when the veterans arrive)
“You start to listen more. You start to hear more calls and stuff, so you don’t really have time to talk. But when you’re out here now, just the rookies, you get that college feeling back and you get to play with each other.”
(On whether he would carry a veteran’s pads during training camp)
“Oh, of course. I’ll definitely be carrying pads, helmets, whatever else they need me to carry.”
