Steven Jackson had a productive outing in his first preseason appearance, picking up 20 yards on four carries on Saturday at Cleveland. But the running backs behind Jackson continue to struggle.
In the two preseason contests, Chris Ogbonnaya, Kenneth Darby and Keith Toston have mustered just 78 yards on 37 carries, a meager 2.1-yard average. Ogbonnaya, given the first opportunity to earn the job as Jackson's backup, has been particularly anemic, picking up only 14 yards on 12 carries.
"We certainly need a little bit more production out of those other three guys," coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "It's a combination of things: guys not making blocks up front and maybe a little bit of vision on the running backs, making cuts. ... We'll just keep evaluating it."
