Post Practice 1 – QB A.J. Feeley – July 29, 2010

(On preparing for the season)

“I’m trying to get these guys where they need to be and winning seasons.  I kind of want to impress that upon this offense and this team and how to go about their business with a winning mentality.”

(On being older and still being among the rookies)

“Every place I’ve been it’s been a similar situation where the quarterbacks usually come in early and you get a chance to work it out before the veterans get in here because once they get in here it counts. You can’t waste reps.  So it’s a great chance for us quarterbacks to get back in the swing of things.  We’ve had a couple weeks off.  Although we’ve been throwing, nothing is comparable to game speed and being out here with these guys.”

(On showing the rookies what to do)

“You get a chance to spend a little more time, slow down the tempo, more teaching and I guess it would be the fast and the game speed tempo… a lot of teaching tempo.  Plus these guys don’t know what to expect coming into a training camp, the conditioning levels and how tough it is mentally, so you get a chance to kind of get acclimated to what’s going on before the veteran guys get in here.  Once the veteran guys get in here you move forward and you’re either with it or you’re not.”

(On being in touch with Sam Bradford)

“We’ll be touching base via text message or phone but that’s not a problem.”

(On anything that could be a possible problem with so many young guys)

“No, the guys who are on the field are going to play and we’re going to get them ready to play and that’s the way you approach it.  The guys are very grateful.  We’re young, but as a quarterback its nice having young guys because they’re willing to do just about anything because they want the ball.  That’s encouraging.  The two we have on the field, that’s who we’re going to play with.”

(On taking advantage of the young guys)

“No, but the older guys in the league are sometimes set in their ways about how they want to do things.  With this passing game here it’s all based on timing. You kind of want to be like, ‘Hey I really need you to do this,’ and they’re more willing to listen to you and they want to do the right thing.  It’s great, being an older quarterback, to get guys on the same page with you.”

(On being older)

“No I don’t let myself… I still think I’m 24, 25.  As long as I keep that mentality I’m never going to look in the mirror and be like, ‘Jeez, this kid was how old when I got into the league?’”

(On what Bradford is missing from not being here today)

“Right now he just missed a practice.  I mean, it’s not the end of the world.  You like to have him out there to work with these guys, but he’s been through the whole offseason program and it’s just a day. If it’s two days or three days… Sam’s a smart guy. He’s bright so I don’t see him lagging.  I don’t see him sitting home on the couch and not doing anything.  He’s going to be out there preparing and getting ready to go as well.”

(On all four quarterbacks approaching camp like they’re the starter)

“I think every quarterback approaches the game that way.  Even if you’re the fourth guy on the roster, you approach like you’re going to be the number one because you never know what’s going to happen at the end of the day.  If you start getting complacent and you’re not competitive or not doing your job, it slips out of your hands. It does.  Approach every day…it’s like the same thing for all the rest of the guys, if they’re going to come out and be the number one quarterback, too.”
