The St. Louis Rams have begun the process of trimming their roster to the 53-man regular-season limit. Wide receiver Jordan Kent, safety Brett Johnson, tight end Darcy Johnson, and center Tim Mattran have been released, according to team sources.

In addition, the injury news coming out of the Baltimore game wasn't encouraging for safety Kevin Payne and offensive tackle Eric Young. Both have knee injuries that could sideline them for four to six weeks.

Young probably wasn't going to make the team anyway, but Payne was considered one of the team's top four safeties. The team is still considering the roster status of those two players _ whether to place them on IR, kept them on the active roster, or reach an injury settlement.
