The St. Louis Rams are putting the finishing touches on their eight-man practice squad. Two linebackers cut over the weekend by NFC clubs were added to the Rams' practice squad Sunday, raising to seven the number of players known to have signed.
Linebacker Mortty Ivy of Carolina and linebacker/defensive end Curtis Johnson of Dallas are the latest additions.
Ivy, 24, joined the Panthers as an undrafted rookie in 2009, spending most of the year on Carolina's practice squad. He had 13 tackles and one forced fumble this preseason for the Panthers. Ivy, 6-1, 239 pounds, is a former all-Big East Conference linebacker from West Virginia.
Johnson, 25, played at Clark Atlanta University before signing with the Indianapolis Colts in 2008 as an undrafted rookie. He appeared in seven games with the Colts in '08, recording four tackles and one sack. He was also in on six special teams stops. Last year with Dallas, he appeared in three games with one tackle. A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Johnson is 6-3, 254.
Earlier in the day, the Rams signed five players to the practice squad who were in training camp with them: wide receivers Danario Alexander and Brandon McRae; center/guard Drew Miller; offensive tackle Ryan McKee; and cornerback Marquis Johnson. Johnson was a seventh-round pick by the Rams out of Alabama.
