LONDON • They've seen some of his "people" — but as of Thursday morning, no one had actually seen him. Nonetheless, the Rams contingent here was slightly abuzz with the news that actor/producer Tom Cruise was staying at the same resort hotel, The Grove, outside London.
"Tom Cruise is there?" Rams defensive end Chris Long said, somewhat in disbelief. "That's cool, man. Same hotel? Not everybody can say that."
Perhaps. But maybe Tom Cruise is saying: "I'm at the same hotel as Chris Long!"
"He probably isn't," Long said, shaking his head. "He's probably not."
You never know. Long might run into Cruise in the morning scrum for complementary coffee in the lobby.
Not practicing for the Rams on Thursday were: OT Wayne Hunter (back), OT Rodger Saffold (knee), and DE Eugene Sims (knee).
Listed as limited were WR Danny Amendola (collarbone), DT Matt Conrath (knee), TE Mike McNeill (knee), and LB Mario Haggan (thigh).
McNeill, the Kirkwood High product, was a new addition to the report. Haggan practiced for the first time since suffering a thigh injury Oct. 4 against Arizona; he's a valuable special teams contributor.
In a correction to the Wednesday report, it was WR Brandon Gibson _ not WR Chris Givens _ who missed Wednesday's practice because of illness. But Gibson returned to practice Thursday and was full participation.
As for Amendola, he did a little more on Thursday as he tests the separated SC joint _ the place where the collarbone meets the breastbone _ and gradually works his way back into playing form.
"I'm getting there," Amendola said. "I'm almost there."
It's all but a certainty Amendola won't play Sunday against New England, but he said it's realistic to expect a return after the Rams bye week for their Nov. 11 game at San Francisco.
"Absolutely," Amendola said. "One hundred percent actually."
