LADUE (1-0) at SLUH (1-0)

What you need to know • Both teams pulled off "upsets'' to open the season as Ladue knocked off No. 8 Parkway Central 41-36 and SLUH rallied to upend No. 9 Parkway North 48-28. SLUH is ninth and Ladue 10th in the latest large-school rankings. The Junior Bills, who trailed 21-7 early in the second quarter, were paced offensively by a trio of juniors — QB Trevor McDonagh (14 of 18, 258 yards, 2 TDs, 1 rushing TD) RB Terek Hawkins (16 carries, 144 yards, 2 TDs) and WR Mitch Klug (6 catches, 176 yards, 69-yard TD). For Ladue, QB Kortland Webb enjoyed a big game against Central, running for 167 yards and 4 TDs while passing for 159 yards and a pair of scores to Jesu Chesson (7 catches, 59 yards).
MAPLEWOOD (1-0) at BRENTWOOD (1-0)
When • 7 p.m.
What you need to know • One of the area's top small-school rivalries took an interesting turn in last year's Class 2 playoffs when Brentwood snapped a seven-game losing streak, dating back to the 2004 season, by beating Maplewood-Richmond Heights en route to finishing second in Class 2. Maplewood, ranked second among area small schools, defeated MICDS 26-16 last week as four different players scored touchdowns. Tenth-ranked Brentwood beat Crystal City 39-33 in overtime as quarterback Ryan Jones threw for 211 yards and three TDs.
BELLEVILLE WEST (1-0) vs. ALTHOFF (0-1)
When • 7 p.m. at Lindenwood University in Belleville
What you need to know • The Maroons, off a 21-7 triumph over Highland last Friday, hold a 43-28-3 edge over the city rival Crusaders. West has won the last two — 43-23 a year ago — but is just 2-6 in its last eight meetings with Althoff. RBs Sedrick Spillers (137 yards) and Jeremy Hill (127 yards, two TDs) led the way as the Maroons finished with 404 rushing yards. Althoff gave up 263 passing yards in a 37-20 loss to Collinsville to open the season. Offensively, the Crusaders were paced by QB Jabari Taylor, who threw for 222 yards and accounted for a pair of TDs. RB Vinson Arterbridge, a transfer from East St. Louis who missed all of last season with a right knee injury, ran 21 times for just 34 yards.
WEBSTER GROVES (1-0) at UNIVERSITY CITY (1-0)

What you need to know • The defending Class 5 state champs open their Suburban South Conference schedule with another Friday afternoon test. The Statesmen, ranked fourth among area large schools, opened the season with a dominating 51-14 win at McCluer, getting big games from returning All-Metro performers Marquis Clemons (2 for 4, 89 yards, 1 passing TD; 2 rushing TDs, blocked punt, interception) and Jason Meehan (9 tackles, interception, 76-yard TD catch) as well as varsity newcomer Rayshawn Simmons (11 for 14, 218 yards, TD). U. City opened with a 50-22 league victory at Parkway West. Senior Brendan Walker paced the Lions, carrying 14 times for 215 yards and five TDs; Walker also scored on a 79-yard kickoff return.
JENNINGS (0-1) at NORMANDY (0-1)
When • 4 p.m.
What you need to know • The host Vikings, who failed to hold an 18-6 halftime lead in a 21-18 loss at Triad to open the season, will look to bounce back as they begin defense of the Suburban East Conference championship. Against Triad , Robert Johnson and Tion Blair each had 75-yard TD runs; the other score came on a 12-yard pass from Terrell Whitfield to Johnson. Jennings, which lost 28-12 to Normandy in 2009, fell 41-6 at Northwest Academy last week. QB Anthony Boyd completed 9 of 14 passes for 136 yards in the game, accounting for the Warriors' lone score with a 21-yard scoring pass to Devin Claxton early in the second quarter.
