The Spartans' right tackle entered his sophomore season as a Division I prospect already pursued by BCS conference schools and he showed that he was well on his way to fulfilling his potential. DeSmet went 9-3, advanced to the Class 5 quarterfinals and averaged 35.1 points and 382 total yards per game.
