Pacific High School left-handed pitcher Josh Moore has made a verbal commitment to St. Louis University.
"I made my choice because I'm wanting to get into sports medicine and SLU is a great school for medicine and all that stuff," Moore said.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound southpaw, who just turned 17, features a fastball in the mid to upper 80s to go along with a curveball, changeup and the occasional slider.
"First and foremost, he's a lefty with an above-average arm," said Pacific coach Jeff Reed, who also coached Moore with the Rawlings Prospects this summer. "In high school, he was 85-87 and this summer he didn't throw with that velocity, but he has a plus curveball. He just goes out and competes."
Moore went 6-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 39 2/3 innings over seven starts as a junior. He allowed 19 hits, including three extra-base hits, struck out 67 batters, walked 20 and limited opponents to a .138 batting average.
He was also one of the top hitters for the Four Rivers Conference champion Indians (19-4). Moore batted .339 with nine extra-base hits, 30 RBIs, 20 runs scored and a .391 on-base percentage.
As a sophomore, Moore went 3-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 16 2/7 innings, with 31 strikeouts and 13 walks. He went 1-0 and did not allow an earned run in six innings as a freshman.
Moore is the fourth St. Louis area rising senior from the Rawlings Prospects 18U team to make a college commitment this summer, following Parkway South's Danny Holst (Texas A&M), Marquette outfielder Sean Ullrich (Missouri) and Lafayette shortstop William DuPont (Mississippi State).
