The Class 5 District 3 boys basketball semifinals at Parkway South on Wednesday night featured one of the biggest upsets of the young postseason.

No. 5 seed Marquette knocked off top-seeded Parkway South 50-40 to win its sixth straight game and earn a berth in the district championship contest on Friday night at South.

"We're just taking care of the ball better and we're making shots," Marquette coach Shane Matzen said of the winning streak. "It's like a snowball. People start getting confident and do the things they can do."

Marquette (17-10), which will meet rival Lafayette in the title game at 8 p.m. Friday, got 12 points from Mitch Cox, 11 from Ryan Rosburg and 10 from Dillon Jones.

Suburban West Conference champion Parkway South, the No. 9 team in the STLhighschoolsports.com large-schools rankings, fell to 20-7. Eric Laurent, Sam Jaouni and Matt Highsmith scored 10 points apiece.

"They probably didn't shoot as well as they normally do, which helped us," Matzen said of South. "They were in foul trouble, too."
