While the season didn't end with a trip to the state tournament, first-year coach Dan Munoz felt the Collinsville boys golf team had a successful year.
The Kahoks were 12-3 in duals and placed third in the Class 3A Collinsville Regional before finishing eighth at the Joliet Central Sectional.
"I was fortunate to be blessed with some really good players, and I give a lot of credit to Garry Henson, who was the coach before me," Munoz said. "I knew we had our top four guys returning and anything behind them was icing on the cake."
The top four included Keenai Sampson, Jordan Bost, Adam Garcia and Branden Henson.
"Keenai missed qualifying for state by one stroke, so he's someone worth watching the next two years," Munoz said. "I expect big things from him.
"For Jordan, golf is his thing and he really enjoys it. He won the Quincy Invitational, which is one of the biggest tournaments in the state," the Collinsville coach said. "He just needs to figure out course management."
Munoz was pleased with the leadership of seniors Garcia and Branden Henson.
"(Henson) was pretty solid, (shooting) around 37 or 38 all year in dual matches," Munoz said.
As for Garcia, Munoz pointed out he won the Madison County Tournament and was second at the regional before struggling at the sectional.
Senior Zack Gibbs and junior Matt Sockoch rounded out the top six for the Kahoks.
