The wrestling teams from Edwardsville and Triad will attempt to take the final step to state in dual team sectional action at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Springfield High.
Edwardsville will take on state power Minooka in Class 3A, while Triad and Chatham Glenwood meet in Class 2A action.
Tuesday's winners will move on to the eight-team state championships Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.
Edwardsville, which finished fourth at state in 2006 and 2009, is led by junior Blake Blair (41-5), who finished second at 195 pounds over the weekend in the individual championships at Assembly Hall in Champaign. Senior Dillon Soliben (23-18) was the Tigers' other state competitor.
Minooka, looking for its seventh quarterfinal appearance in nine seasons, finished second at state in 2011, won the title in 2010 and took second in 2009. The Indians feature 170-pound champ Jake Residori, (45-2), who also placed in 2010 (sixth) and 2011 (fourth). Corbett Oughton (41-6) finished fourth at 145 over the weekend.
Triad, the Class 2A fourth-place finisher in 2009, is led by two-time medalists Jake Tindle (third at 170, 49-2) and Kyle Graumenz (fourth at 138, 37-4) and freshman Cole Wysocki (fourth at 106, 47-4). Heavyweight Dan Calvin (36-16) also competed at state.
Graumenz was a state runner-up in 2010; Tindle placed fourth in 2011.
Glenwood reached state, but did not place last year. Over the weekend, the Titans' Sam Butler (30-8) took sixth at 120.
