CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS • Jake Tindle of Triad in Class 2A and Kameron Harris of Althoff in Class 1A were the only two third-place finishers out of seven area wrestlers in the 75th annual Illinois state individual state wrestling tournament at Assembly Hall Saturday evening.
Tindle (49-2) defeated Omar Awad of Burlington Central 11-0 in a 170-pound match and Harris (37-5) defeated Dylan Deshane of Erie 6-3 at 182.
In other third-place bouts, in Class 2A, Cole Wysocki of Triad (106) was beaten by Anthony Bosco of Marmion Academy of Aurora 3-2. Wysocki, a freshman, is 47-4.
Kyle Graumenz of Triad (138) lost to Garrett Sutton of Richmond-Burton 3-1 in overtime when Sutton took Graumenz down with five seconds to go in the extra period. Graumenz is 37-4.
Cahokia's David Frazier (152) was pinned by Jason Fugiel of Crystal Lake Central in 2 minutes 59 seconds when Fugiel, who was trailing 4-2 at the time, caught Frazier (39-4) in a cradle.
In Class 3A, Mech Spraggins of Belleville West (126) lost to Zach Synon of Prairie Ridge 7-5. Sraggins, a junior and a three-year place finisher, ended 35-3. He had beaten Synon 9-0 in a quarterfinal match on Friday.
Josh Dowdy of Granite City (170) was pinned by Cody Pych of South Elgin in 2:38 in Class 3A. Dowdy, who was down 7-0 at the time, ended 44-11.
Earlier in the day in fifth-place bouts in Class 1A, Tyler Floyd of Roxana (160) defeated Robbie Irvin of Hoopeston-Area 6-5. Floyd ended the season at 41-7.
In Class 3A, Skyler Procasky of Belleville East (138) won by injury default over Matt Ornoff of Mundelein to earn a fifth-place medal. It was Procasky's first trip to state and he wound up 37-5.
Michael Harris of Althoff (126) finished sixth in Class 1A after losing to Steven Licina of Kankakee McNamara 13-2. Harris, who had beaten Licina 4-2 in the quarterfinals on Friday, ended 22-10.
