Defenseman Darryl Sydor, who played the final year of his 18-year NHL career with the Blues last season, announced his retirement Tuesday.

Sydor, 38, won two Stanley Cups and played in 1,291 NHL games, which ranks 16th all-time among defensemen.

He also amassed 507 points (98 goals, 409 assists) and finished with a career plus-21 rating.

Sydor will be an assistant coach with the Houston Aeros, the top minor-league affiliate of the Minnesota Wild.
