Defenseman Jeff Schultz has agreed to a four-year, $11 million contract to remain with the Washington Capitals, the team announced Wednesday.
Schultz, 24, led the NHL last season with a plus-50 rating and had a team-high 129 blocked shots. He had three goals and career highs of 20 assists and 23 points in 73 games.
Schultz, the Capitals' first-round choice — 27th overall — in the 2004 entry draft, was a restricted free agent and had filed for salary arbitration before Monday's deadline.
Washington also signed defenseman Brian Fahey to a one-year contract and agreed to a two-year deal with left wing Kyle Greentree.
Sabres get Niedermayer • Buffalo signed free agent center Rob Niedermayer to a one-year deal.
Niedermayer has played in 16 seasons in the NHL, and won a Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007. Last year he had 22 points in 71 games with New Jersey.

Leafs sign Lebda • Toronto signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Brett Lebda to a two-year contract.
Corvo returns to Hurricanes • Carolina has agreed to a two-year, $4.5 million deal to bring back free-agent defenseman Joe Corvo, who was traded last year to Washington.
Carolina also agreed to two-way deals with left winger Nicholas Blanchard and defenseman Casey Borer.
Eaves re-signs with Red Wings • Detroit has re-signed forward Patrick Eaves, giving him a one-year deal.
He had 12 goals and 22 assists in 65 games for the Red Wings last season, his first with the franchise.
Avalanche re-sign Yip • Restricted free agent forward Brandon Yip has signed a two-year contract to stay in Colorado.
The Avs also signed free agent forward Ben Walter to a one-year deal.
Thrashers re-sign PIM leader • Forward Eric Boulton, Atlanta's career leader in penalty minutes, has re-signed. The Thrashers also signed two unrestricted free agents — forward Jared Ross and defenseman Jaime Sifers.
Sharks get Leach • The San Jose Sharks have signed free agent defenseman Jay Leach to a one-year contract.
