So I was sitting in a marketing meeting yesterday here at the Post-Dispatch where we were discussing our recently launched Rams app, how sales were going for it and how we could make improvements. At this meeting we also discussed the continued sales of our Cards app.
At one point the conversation turned to the upcoming release of our Blues app. Yes, many of you have asked, and, yes, we will be doing a Blues app. All the same features as Cards and Rams ... all of our stories go on app, twitter feed updates from our writers, all JR's morning skates, player stats, photos, etc., etc.
Discussion turned to how many Cards apps have been sold, how many Rams apps sold in the first few days since we've launched it and how many prospective Blues apps we might sell. I scoffed at the low estimates projected for our Blues app ... and here's why:
While the Blues fan base may be significantly smaller than the Cardinals and Rams, I contend the Blues fan base is much more rabid about their team and will want all the information we have to offer as quickly and easily as possible. While no one was taking wagers, I and another marketing executive both agreed we thought the Blues app would outsell the Rams app.
Time will tell and it's not like I'm making any money from it either way, but I'd love to see my prediction prove to be right. Blues fans seem to often clamor for more and more coverage ... this app will be a nice barometer of how many folks really are following the team. Of course not every Blues fan has a smart phone or perhaps even the ability to pay the $2.99 for the season, but I hope I get to bust out an "I told you so" on folks in a few months.
Do me a favor and let me know in our poll whether or not you think you'll buy the Blues app when it comes out.
Until the puck drops next month at camp ...
