Where • Scottrade Center.

TV, radio • Fox Sports Midwest, KMOX (1120).

Blues preview • The Blues own the best home record in the NHL (23-3-4) after beating Colorado in overtime on Saturday. With back-to-back games this weekend, the team started Brian Elliott in goal against the Avalanche and is expected to come back with Jaroslav Halak against the Sharks. Elliott beat the Sharks 1-0 at Scottrade Center on Dec. 10, kicking aside 24 shots. Kevin Shattenkirk had the only goal. The Blues are 2-0 against the Sharks, having won at San Jose on Oct. 15.

Sharks preview • San Jose is beginning a nine-game road swing in St. Louis. The Sharks set the tone by leaving home with a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. Goaltender Antti Niemi turned aside 30 shots in beating the Hawks, his former team. Sharks forward Lougan Couture extended a points streak to eight games with two assists against Chicago. Couture leads the Sharks with 23 goals.

What to watch • Sharks playmaker Joe Thornton (12 goals, 25 assists) always has been urged to shoot more often. Thornton has embraced the advice this season, at least to an extent. He has 107 shots in 52 games, a pace to produce a career-high 162 shots over the 82-game schedule. The Blues are hoping speedy winger Andy McDonald might return from his extended absence because of a concussion. David Backes leads the Blues with 16 goals, but has scored in only one of the last 12 games.

Injuries • BLUES: F Andy McDonald (concussion) IR, F Alex Steen (concussion) IR, F Matt D'Agostini (concussion) day-to-day, D Kent Huskins (ankle) IR, Jason Arnott (shoulder) IR. SHARKS: D Jason Demers (lower body) IR; F Tommy Wingels (upper body) IR; Martin Havlat (leg) IR.
