Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo will have minor surgery on a lower-body injury, sources confirmed Monday.
The defenseman, who has been skating at the team's practice facility, elected for the procedure, which is expected to happen "very soon," a source said.
Pietrangelo, 22, played in 81 regular-season games in 2011-12, posting 12 goals and 51 points.
In Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals, he suffered a sprained knee when he was hit awkwardly into the boards by Los Angeles' Dwight King, forcing him to miss Game 2 of the series.
In May, Pietrangelo said that surgery was not needed for that injury, and it's not known whether his upcoming surgery is related.
The defenseman is expected to be ready for the scheduled start of training camp, Sept. 21.
