Blues • Tonight will mark the first of four meetings against Colorado, which is a new division rival of the Blues after being added to the Central Division in the recent NHL realignment. The Blues are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to Phoenix on Tuesday; however, the team did pick up a point for the 10th time in its last 11 games. ... While forward Alexander Steen saw his point-streak extend to 11 games (10 goals, four assists), defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk had his end Tuesday. Shattenkirk will be glad to see Colorado, however. A former member of the Avs, he has four goals and seven points in nine career games against the Avalanche. ... Jaroslav Halak will be in net tonight.

Avalanche • Colorado is now under the control of Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy, who has had tremendous success as a first-year coach. Roy has the Avalanche out to a 14-3 start, which is the second-best record in the NHL. Colorado, however, will be coming off a 2-1 loss to Carolina on Tuesday, its first road loss of the season after a 6-0 start. ... Matt Duchene, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2009 draft, is leading the Avalanche with 11 goals in 16 games. St. Louisan Paul Stastny has three goals and one assist in a four-game point streak. Defensman Erik Johnson, a former Blue, has seven points and a plus-minus rating of plus-10 in 17 games.

Injuries • Blues — LW Magnus Paajarvi (upper-body injury) and D Jordan Leopold (hand), out. Avalanche — D Ryan Wilson (back), questionable; LW Alex Tanguay (knee), out.
