Baltimore — Marc Bulger's first series with the Baltimore Ravens ended in a similar fashion to many drives when he was quarterbacking the Rams during the latter part of his tenure in St. Louis — with a turnover.
Bulger, who is behind No. 1 quarterback Joe Flacco with the Ravens, entered Baltimore's exhibition opener against Carolina in the second quarter Tuesday night. After throwing an incompletion on his first play and handing off on his second snap, Bulger was sacked by Eric Norwood, fumbled and the ball was recovered by the Panthers' Brian Witherspoon.
Bulger, who was signed this summer by the Ravens after being released by the Rams in April, finished five of 12 passing for 67 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in limited duty in the Ravens' 17-12 victory.
He is battling Troy Smith for the No. 2 quarterback slot in Baltimore. Smith played in the second half, when a rainstorm swept into the stadium, and was two of six passing for 18 yards and ran four times for 12 yards and a touchdown.
