New owner Curtis Francois has changed the name of Gateway International Raceway to Gateway Motorsports Park. The 152-acre facility in Madison, which was built in 1996 by Chris Pook, had been called Gateway International Raceway for 16 years. Before that, the area where the track is located had been called St. Louis International Raceway.
Also, there will be a title sponsor when the National Hot Rod Association returns to the track after a two-year hiatus on Sept. 28-30 for its national event. It will be called the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals.
The race is the third of six races in the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship. (Ken Roberts)
