FENTON • AC St. Louis enjoyed an offensive explosion Saturday night, coming up with three second-half goals in a 3-0 victory over the visiting Montreal Impact in USSF Division 2 pro soccer action before a crowd of 2,307 at Anheuser-Busch Center.
Entering the match, the local squad had been outscored 20-8.
"It's been coming,'' said AC St. Louis coach Dale Schilly. His team is now 3-8-3 in league play and 1-1-2 since Schilly took over. "The guys have really worked hard and their mentality is different and their approach is different.''
Edwardsville product Luke Kreamalmeyer had a hand in all three goals.
"We've been close to winning in a few games lately; I think we just got tired of losing,'' he said.
After a scoreless first half, AC St. Louis struck for a pair of goals in a 5-minute span to take control. In the 57th minute, Kreamalmeyer's long corner was played back into the box by Mark Bloom for Anthony O'Garro. O'Garro's header was cleared off the goal line, but Chris Salvaggione responded with a bicycle kick to score on the rebound.
In the 62nd minute, Gauchinho won a ball in the midfield and moved the ball to Salvaggione on the right wing. A pass to the box was touched by Elvir Kafedzic to Kremalmeyer, who scored with a low shot to the far corner.
Reserve Jeff Cosgriff scored in the 78th.
Alec Dufty had two saves in the shutout. Montreal is 4-6-5.
