ST. LOUIS > Airport audit

Lambert airport officials could save $1.8 million a year in unnecessary costs by closing one of three fire stations, according to a new audit. Missouri Auditor Susan Montee said Thursday that the south firehouse near the main terminal at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is no longer necessary to meet Federal Aviation Administration requirements for response times. "The airport doesn't have the authority over closing the firehouse or reassigning the firefighters there," Montee said. "That comes under the St. Louis Fire Department."
