3-D Scrooge is humbug of Christmas present
With due respect to roller coasters and pirate ships, the most transportive ride at the Disney theme parks is Peter Pan's Flight, which glides us on wires above a Neverland of lost innocence that looks like 19th century London. At its best, Disney's new 3-D, animated version of "A Christmas Carol" achieves a similar soaring effect, but it's eerie rather than wondrous.

Biopic of designer is sidetracked in 'Coco'
Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel was the pioneering designer of elegantly simple clothing that focused attention on the woman within. The biopic "Coco Before Chanel," which traces the Chanel aesthetic to the designer's hardscrabble youth, is suitably restrained, but the woman within it is as hard and unsmiling as a mannequin.
