Bottle Service: Chocolate, cheese and booze at Baileys'
Bottle Service, bar, club, review, nightlife (Elie Gardner/P-D)
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

Chocolate, cheese and booze made the perfect trifecta for our Bottle Service reporters, who filed this report from their recent evening in Lafayette Square.

Elie: You know, we've hit some good spots, but our average classiness rating is dangerously low. We're striving for class tonight at Baileys' Chocolate Bar.

John: It's an excellent choice. The Chocolate Bar might be the perfect date spot, nestled in the heart of Lafayette Square. If I know you, a selection of fine cheeses is going to be the first thing we order.

E: You know me well. I can't live without St. André. Let's also try the Methuselah. It's a Missouri product. You pick the third.

J: I love a sharp Stilton, so let's try it.

E: I hear chocolate and cheese can go well together. I'm also feeling daring. I'm going with the "spicy sexual" chocolate martini.

J: I throw out all rules pertaining to the waistline when I come here. I'm going straight for the chocolate martini special, full of chocolate and cherries.

E: My drink is interesting — creamy and spicy but not full of chocolate flavor. It's made with Absolut Peppar.

J: My drink is bursting with chocolate and cherry flavors. Wow. I could sip this all night.

E: I must say, this drink is not the best pairing for the cheese. I'm glad I took the risk, but I don't think I'd want a second.

J: The menu says roses are for sale, under the heading "Impulsive Spending." Nice touch.

E: So, do I get a rose?

J: Maybe, if you pick my next drink.

E: I like the name of this coffee martini drink: Fragile Baby. It's representative of how I think of you.

J: The rose has officially been taken away, along with my dignity.

E: But let me guess, you are going to give the drink a try?

J: I'm sorry, did you say something? I'm currently drowning in Frangelico. The Fragile Baby is a delicate and warm blend of hazelnut and coffee goodness. How's your drink?

E: Amazing. I went for the signature chocolate martini. It's like drinking pure chocolate — and it's strong! You can order it hot or cold, but this time of the year, hot is the way to go. By the way, this place is oozing with class: roses on the tables, flowing curtains, warm and dim light, wine-bottle water service.

J: Everything from the drinks to the decor is very warm in here. I have to be honest, I'm looking for something to criticize, but I can't find it.
