After weeks of trying vodka, rum and beer-mixed-with-liquor drinks, Bottle Service went to a bar best known for its food, not drinks.

John: One of the things I really appreciate about St. Louis is the neighborhood bars. Let's swing by the Black Thorn Pub. I'm in the mood for pizza!

Elie: People in the office have been asking about our livers, so going some place for the food might be a good change.

J: And we're talking Chicago-style pizza in St. Louis, so I'm even more intrigued. What should we get on our pizza? And what drink goes with pizza?

E: I'm going to go bartender's choice. Let's find out if the bartender has some food-pairing skills.

J: She suggested the O'Fallon Pumpkin Beer for you. I've never had Maudite, so I'm going to give that a try.

E: I like Maudite, but make sure it's served in a snifter! And let's go for green peppers and sausage on the pizza. I notice they offer three styles — deep dish, pan and thin — but let's go deep dish.

J: You're so much more cultured than I am. I'm used to drinking beer straight from the bottle. What do you think of the atmosphere here?

E: It's cozy for a rainy night like tonight, though I'll have to ditch the plan to wear this sweatshirt again before laundry day. It's a bit smoky. And it seems to be common knowledge that the deep-dish pizza will take at least 45 minutes to cook.

J: Yes, but it looks like ours is already here in less time, and it's so huge! I hope it's real mozzarella and not that provel stuff.

E: It's definitely mozzarella. This is delicious. They call this pizza? It's like a doubledecker casserole!

J: Wow. That extra layer of cheese is amazing, and is it me or is the sauce a bit spicy?

E: The sauce has some kick. I like it. Lots of diversions in here, too, just in case your company is lame: air hockey, a jukebox, darts, shuffleboard, pinball and other arcade games. An adolescent boy's dream!

J: I don't know about you, but I'm completely stuffed after two slices.

E: I don't even have room for a second beer, but I did like the pumpkin beer, sausage and pepper pairing.

J: I saved room for another beverage. I'll give the Liberty Ale a try.

E: Oh, give me liberty or give me death! With a stomach this full, death is a tempting option.

J: The pizza tasted so good that at least you'll die happy.
