Bottle Service: Las Palmas serves up big margaritas
Bottle Service visits Las Palmas (P-D)
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

Our Bottle Service team went south of the border to sip some tequila in hope of forgetting about the recent dip in temperatures.

John: It's beginning to get kind of chilly outside. I'm in the mood for something tropical. Any suggestions?

Elie: Well, tequila always warms me up. Well, at least it makes my cheeks warm. Know where we can find a good margarita?

J: How about Las Palmas?

E: Great suggestion. I'm already dreaming of palm trees, mariachi music and umbrellas in my drink.

J: Uh, that was the "House Hunters International" episode you were bragging about from last night. I don't think Woodson Terrace has much in common with Cabo.

E: Hey, I'll take what I can get.

J: I think we're already there. This place is quite kitschy. Crazy colors everywhere. It's like a Skittles explosion!

E: Our drinks are also quite colorful. I got the Las Palmas margarita. The waiter says it's the most popular drink on the menu. It's made with Jose Cuervo and tastes pretty typical. What's that red thing you're drinking?

J: In honor of Halloween, I got the Vampiro. It has a very cool gradient from red to orange but tastes about on par with every other margarita I've had.

E: Yeah, the most notable thing about my drink is its size. It's gigantic! I don't think I'll need two drinks tonight!

J: According to the waiter, my margarita is made with top-shelf tequila.

E: It gets pretty points, not to mention the great value. Speaking of value, this $3.95 chile relleno is tasty. The breading is not too greasy or heavy. It's almost fluffy, and the chile has a nice roasted flavor.

J: My chimichanga is excellent! Spicy and flavorful, a nice complement to my Vampiro.

E: I'd like to check this place out again to sample some of their other margaritas. There is another location where the old El Scorcho was in Maplewood, a little closer to our neck of the woods.

J: I wonder if that one has spaghetti-strap tank tops and packets of energy powder for sale at the front counter like this one does. Talk about unexpected.

E: I could use a little energy jolt, but it's a little too chilly for the tank top. I'll pass.

J: But are your cheeks warm yet?

E: Warm enough until next week's adventure!
