Call for liver dumplings brings many recipes
![]() POST-DISPATCH FOOD EDITOR
"I'm looking for a recipe for liver dumplings. Ate them all the time when I was young at picnics in Ste. Genevieve." Dolores Reason, St. Louis "I was born and raised in Ste. Genevieve, and I've never understood why liver dumplings are never found anywhere else," wrote Deborah Lalumondier of Shrewsbury. "People who hate liver love them. They still sell them at all the parish picnics." Candy Schott of Bloomsdale, Mo., contributed the recipe published here. "Not many recipes for liver dumplings call for an apple, and I think that is why these have such a great taste. I fix them for many holiday and birthday meals and they are enjoyed by all." These readers also contributed recipes: Joan Naeger; Joan Kertz and Dorothy Telthorst, St. Louis; Marian Seabaugh, Ballwin; Diane Friedmeyer and Mary Ann Switzer, Chesterfield; Virginia Horrell, High Ridge; Maureen Murphy, Lonedell; Susan Jackson, O'Fallon, Mo.; Gilberta Gegg, Ste. Genevieve; Sally Matthews, St. Charles; and Elaine Schauer, Wright City. We'll forward all of the recipes to Reason. And now, another request: — "I would like to find a recipe for Hawaiian Cake that appeared in the Prince Gardner employee newspaper in the late '60s," wrote Dollie Fritsche of Okawville, whose sister worked for the company. "The recipe used graham cracker crumbs in lieu of flour, and it included crushed pineapple, flaked coconut and chopped nuts. The cake was baked in a 9-by-13-inch pan and it was not iced. I remember that the recipe was contributed by someone from the Prince Gardner factory in St. Mary, Mo."
